our ingredients: Our soaps are made with an all-organic base of olive, palm, castor and coconut oils with an addition of shea or cocoa butter. The largest portion of our recipe base is made from organic extra virgin olive oil. We chose these ingredients for their distinct and cosmetic properties. Olive oil softens and attracts external moisture to your skin while simultaneously retaining its natural moisture. Palm oil comes from the fruit of the oil palm and helps to make a mild soap that cleans well. Coconut oil is extracted from the dried meat of the coconut; it provides a rich lather and aids in the hardness of our bars. Castor oil is a vegetable oil that comes from the castor bean; we include it in our soaps because it helps to attract and hold moisture to the skin. Organic shea butter is a natural fat taken from the fruit of the shea tree; it acts as a moisturizer and an emollient. We use cocoa butter that has been minimally processed so that it retains some of its faint chocolate scent. Cocoa butter has natural antioxidants and softening properties. Many say that it promotes elasticity in the skin and can help reduce scarring. Each of our soaps has a scent that we have carefully crafted using only essential oils, organic tea, fair trade coffee and natural additives. our packaging: Each wrap is hand printed using a stamp cut from drawings made by us. We use unbleached paper, made from 25% hemp fiber and 75% post consumer recycled paper. tidbits: Our soaps are made in small batches using organic oils, butters, herbs and additives. Each bar is hand cut, air dried and cured in our workshop in Bushwick, Brooklyn. It is important for new users of handmade soap to note a couple of things. First, make sure you use a soap dish with proper drainage. Handmade soap is typically softer than commercial soaps and will melt quicker if left in a pool of water. You may wonder why your bar of commercial soap lasts longer. A soap’s life is largely determined by its hardness; but a hard soap often lacks the essential properties that benefit your skin. Also, some of our soaps have natural additives that give them a dark color, such as kelp or black walnut powder. If you have a wooden soap dish, it may be stained by the soap. All of our soaps, except the Black Tea Honey, are vegan. None of our soaps are tested on animals. custom orders: One of many reasons that we started making soap was that we couldn't find what we wanted in the stores. Understanding this, we welcome customized orders that suit your individual needs or a scent that you may desire. We are happy to make party favors or even a unique, personalized gift. For more information about this please email us and let us know what you are thinking. shipping: Currently, our online store can only process orders within the United States using the United States Postal Service. We ship on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Orders over $50 have free priority shipping.
